4 drug peddlers arrested: Police | KNO

Srinagar, Mar 03 (KNO): Continuing its efforts to eradicate the drug menace from the society, police on Monday said to have arrested four drug peddles in Shopian, Kulgam & Budgam and recovered contraband substances from their possession. In Shopian, a Police Party from Police Station Shopian at a checkpoint established at Nagesharan crossing intercepted a motorcycle bearing registration No. JK02C-8316. During checking, contraband substance like Charas powder was recovered from the first-aid tool kit of the motorcycle. The pillion riders disclosed their identities as Mohammad Lateef Malik son of Mohammad Yousuf resident of Bongam, Shopian & Tauseef Mushtaq son of Mushtaq Ahmad Wagey resident of New Colony, Largam, a police spokesman said in a statement issued to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO). In Kulam, a Police team from Police Station Qaimoh at a checkpoint established at Khudwani Byepass, intercepted a suspicious person. After search, 2.5 kilograms of Cannabis Husk like substance filled in the bag was recovered from his possession. He has been identified as Mohd Amin Bhat son of Mohd Abdullah Bhat resident of Shamsipora, Bijbhara, police said. Similarly in Budgam, a Police party of Police Station Beerwah at a checkpoint established a Rankipora, intercepted a suspicious person who on seeing the Police party tried to flee from the spot but was apprehended tactfully. He has been identified as Mohammad Saleem Shah son of Mushtaq Ahmad Shah resident of Pati Sail Beerwah, police said. All the accused have been arrested and shifted to respective police stations where they remain in custody. Accordingly, cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective police stations and further investigation has been initiated, police added. “Citizens are encouraged to support police efforts in rooting out the drug menace from society. We assure the public that the police will take strict action against offenders in accordance with the law,” police said—(KNO)
